Physical Wiring
Cat5e required; Cat6 or above recommended.
Inside wiring is subject to testing and qualification by RTC installers — insufficient or problematic wiring can delay some or all delivery dates.
Power Options
PoE, 802.3af (Type 1), via injector or switch. PoE-capable switches should have an aggregate power budget suitable for the number of phones being connected (e.g., a 60W switch may only power 4–6 phones, even with 8 ports available).
12V wall adapters can be used in place of PoE.
Desk phones with multiple sidecars may need supplemental power bricks.
Network Switches
Ports should support 10/100 Mbps or 10/100/1000 Mbps, with autonegotiation.
802.1X is not supported.
Broadcast Domain
A dedicated network/VLAN for phones is not required, but is encouraged.
IP Addresses
Phones can use public or private IPv4 Addresses. This requires at least one IP that can reach the internet; a dedicated, static, or public IP is not required (CGNAT is acceptable), though at least one public IP is encouraged.
IPv6 is not supported at this time for connecting to RTC Voice Cloud.
DHCP
Phones use DHCP and should be provided a default route and DNS servers.
NTP servers should not be provided via DHCP.
Static reservations are fine.
Router Features
NAT is required if private address space is used.
SIP-ALG and similar ALG features should be disabled anywhere they could interfere with the phones.
